Song of Solomon, Chapter 4
Chapter 4 of Song of Solomon
[c]How beautiful you are!
Your 2eyes are like doves 3behind your veil;
Your 4hair is like a flock of goats
That have descended from Mount 5Gilead.
Which have come up from their washing,
All of which bear twins,
And not one among them has [d]lost her young.
And your 8mouth is lovely.
Your 9temples are like a slice of a pomegranate
Behind your veil.
Built [e]with rows of stones
On which are 11hung a thousand shields,
All the round 12shields of the mighty men.
Twins of a gazelle
Which 14feed among the lilies.
When the shadows flee away,
I will go my way to the mountain of 16myrrh
And to the hill of 17frankincense.
And there is no blemish in you.
May you come with me from Lebanon.
[g]Journey down from the summit of 21Amana,
From the summit of 22Senir and Hermon,
From the dens of lions,
From the mountains of leopards.
You have made my heart beat faster with a single glance of your eyes,
With a single strand of your 24necklace.
How much 26better is your love than wine,
And the 27fragrance of your oils
Than all kinds of [h]spices!
Honey and milk are under your tongue,
And the fragrance of your garments is like the 30fragrance of Lebanon.
A [i]rock garden locked, a 31spring 32sealed up.
With 35choice fruits, 36henna with nard plants,
With all the trees of 39frankincense,
40Myrrh and aloes, along with all the finest [k]spices.
A well of [l]41fresh water,
And streams flowing from Lebanon.”
And come, wind of the south;
Make my 42garden breathe out fragrance,
Let its [n]spices [o]be wafted abroad.
May 43my beloved come into his garden
And eat its 44choice fruits!”FOOTNOTES
