Book of Psalms, No. 73
Psalms 73 NASB - New American Standard Bible No. 73 of the Psalms—New American Standard Bible (NASB)
- ¶ Surely God is 1good to Israel,
To those who are 2pure in heart! - But as for me, 3my feet came close to stumbling,
My steps [a]had almost slipped. - For I was 4envious of the [b]arrogant
As I saw the 5prosperity of the wicked. - For there are no pains in their death,
And their [c]body is fat. - They are 6not [d]in trouble as other [e]men,
Nor are they 7plagued [f]like mankind. - Therefore pride is 8their necklace;
The 9garment of violence covers them. - Their eye [g]bulges from 10fatness;
The imaginations of their heart [h]run riot. - They 11mock and [i]wickedly speak of oppression;
They 12speak from on high. - They have 13set their mouth [j]against the heavens,
And their tongue [k]parades through the earth. - ¶ Therefore [l]his people return to this place,
And waters of 14abundance are [m]drunk by them. - They say, “15How does God know?
And is there knowledge [n]with the Most High?” - Behold, 16these are the wicked;
And always 17at ease, they have increased in wealth. - Surely 18in vain I have [o]kept my heart pure
And 19washed my hands in innocence; - For I have been stricken 20all day long
And [p]21chastened every morning. - ¶ If I had said, “I will speak thus,”
Behold, I would have betrayed the 22generation of Your children. - When I 23pondered to understand this,
It was [q]troublesome in my sight - Until I came into the [r]24sanctuary of God;
Then I perceived their 25end. - Surely You set them in 26slippery places;
You cast them down to [s]27destruction. - How they are [t]28destroyed in a moment!
They are utterly swept away by 29sudden terrors! - Like a 30dream when one awakes,
O Lord, when 31aroused, You will 32despise their [u]form. - ¶ When my 33heart was embittered
And I was 34pierced [v]within, - Then I was 35senseless and ignorant;
I was like [w]a 36beast [x]before You. - Nevertheless 37I am continually with You;
You have taken hold of my right hand. - With Your counsel You will 38guide me,
And afterward 39receive me [y]to glory. - ¶ 40Whom have I in heaven but You?
And [z]besides You, I desire nothing on earth. - My 41flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the [aa]strength of my heart and my 42portion forever. - For, behold, 43those who are far from You will 44perish;
You have [ab]destroyed all those who [ac]45are unfaithful to You. - But as for me, 46the nearness of God is my good;
I have made the Lord [ad]GOD my 47refuge,
That I may 48tell of all Your works.
