Psalms 18 NASB - New American Standard BibleNo. 18 of the Psalms—New American Standard Bible (NASB)
- ¶ “I love You, O LORD, 1my strength.”
- The LORD is 2my [a]rock and 3my fortress and my 4deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My 5shield and the 6horn of my salvation, my 7stronghold. - I call upon the LORD, who is 8worthy to be praised,
And I am 9saved from my enemies. - ¶ The 10cords of death encompassed me,
And the 11torrents of [b]ungodliness [c]terrified me. - The 12cords of [d]Sheol surrounded me;
The snares of death confronted me. - In my 13distress I called upon the LORD,
And cried to my God for help;
He heard my voice 14out of His temple,
And my 15cry for help before Him came into His ears. - ¶ Then the 16earth shook and quaked;
And the 17foundations of the mountains were trembling
And were shaken, because He was angry. - Smoke went up [e]out of His nostrils,
And 18fire from His mouth devoured;
Coals were kindled by it. - He 19bowed the heavens also, and came down
With thick 20darkness under His feet. - He rode upon a 21cherub and flew;
And He sped upon the 22wings of the wind. - He made 23darkness His hiding place, 24His [f]canopy around Him,
Darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies. - From the 25brightness before Him passed His thick clouds,
Hailstones and 26coals of fire. - The LORD also 27thundered in the heavens,
And the Most High uttered His voice,
Hailstones and coals of fire. - He 28sent out His arrows, and scattered them,
And lightning flashes in abundance, and [g]routed them. - Then the 29channels of water appeared,
And the foundations of the world were [h]laid bare
At Your 30rebuke, O LORD,
At the blast of the 31breath of Your nostrils. - ¶ He 32sent from on high, He took me;
He drew me out of 33many waters. - He 34delivered me from my strong enemy,
And from those who hated me, for they were 35too mighty for me. - They confronted me in 36the day of my calamity,
But 37the LORD was my stay. - He brought me forth also into a 38broad place;
He rescued me, because 39He delighted in me. - ¶ The LORD has 40rewarded me according to my righteousness;
According to the 41cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me. - For I have 42kept the ways of the LORD,
And have 43not wickedly departed from my God. - For all 44His ordinances were before me,
And I did not put away His 45statutes from me. - I was also [i]46blameless with Him,
And I 47kept myself from my iniquity. - Therefore the LORD has 48recompensed me according to my righteousness,
According to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes. - ¶ With 49the kind You show Yourself kind;
With the [j]blameless 50You show Yourself blameless; - With the pure You show Yourself 51pure,
And with the crooked 52You show Yourself [k]astute. - For You 53save an afflicted people,
But 54haughty eyes You abase. - For You 55light my lamp;
The LORD my God 56illumines my darkness. - For by You I can [l]57run upon a troop;
And by my God I can 58leap over a wall. - ¶ As for God, His way is [m]59blameless;
The 60word of the LORD is tried;
He is a 61shield to all who take refuge in Him. - For 62who is God, but the LORD?
And who is a 63rock, except our God, - The God who 64girds me with strength
And [n]makes my way [o]65blameless? - He 66makes my feet like hinds’ feet,
And 67sets me upon my high places. - He 68trains my hands for battle,
So that my arms can 69bend a bow of bronze. - You have also given me 70the shield of Your salvation,
And Your 71right hand upholds me;
And 72Your [p]gentleness makes me great. - You 73enlarge my steps under me,
And my [q]74feet have not slipped. - ¶ I 75pursued my enemies and overtook them,
And I did not turn back 76until they were consumed. - I shattered them, so that they were 77not able to rise;
They fell 78under my feet. - For You have 79girded me with strength for battle;
You have [r]80subdued under me those who rose up against me. - You have also made my enemies 81turn their backs to me,
And I [s]82destroyed those who hated me. - They cried for help, but there was 83none to save,
Even to the LORD, but 84He did not answer them. - Then I beat them fine as the 85dust before the wind;
I emptied them out as the mire of the streets. - ¶ You have delivered me from the 86contentions of the people;
You have placed me as 87head of the nations;
A 88people whom I have not known serve me. - As soon as they hear, they obey me;
Foreigners [t]89submit to me. - Foreigners 90fade away,
And 91come trembling out of their [u]fortresses. - ¶ The LORD 92lives, and blessed be 93my rock;
And exalted be 94the God of my salvation, - The God who 95executes vengeance for me,
And 96subdues peoples under me. - He 97delivers me from my enemies;
Surely You 98lift me above those who rise up against me;
You rescue me from the 99violent man. - Therefore I will 100give thanks to You among the nations, O LORD,
And I will 101sing praises to Your name. - He gives great [v]102deliverance to His king,
And shows lovingkindness to 103His anointed,
To David and 104his [w]descendants forever.
