Book of Job, Chapter 8
Job 8 NASB - New American Standard Bible Chapter 8 of Job—New American Standard Bible (NASB)
- ¶ Then Bildad the Shuhite [a]answered,
- ¶ “How long will you say these things,
And the 1words of your mouth be a mighty wind? - “Does 2God pervert justice?
Or does [b]the Almighty pervert what is right? - “3If your sons sinned against Him,
Then He delivered them into the [c]power of their transgression. - “If you would 4seek God
And implore the compassion of [d]the Almighty, - If you are pure and upright,
Surely now 5He would rouse Himself for you
And restore your righteous [e]6estate. - “Though your beginning was insignificant,
Yet your 7end will increase greatly. - ¶ “Please 8inquire of past generations,
And consider the things searched out by their fathers. - “For we are only of yesterday and know nothing,
Because 9our days on earth are as a shadow. - “Will they not teach you and tell you,
And bring forth words from their minds? - ¶ “Can the papyrus grow up without a marsh?
Can the rushes grow without water? - “While it is still green and not cut down,
Yet it withers before any other [f]plant. - “So are the paths of 10all who forget God;
And the 11hope of the godless will perish, - Whose confidence is fragile,
And whose trust a 12spider’s [g]web. - “He [h]trusts in his 13house, but it does not stand;
He holds fast to it, but it does not endure. - “He [i]14thrives before the sun,
And his 15shoots spread out over his garden. - “His roots wrap around a rock pile,
He [j]grasps a house of stones. - “If he is [k]removed from 16his place,
Then it will deny him, saying, ‘17I never saw you.’ - “Behold, 18this is the joy of His way;
And out of the dust others will spring. - “Lo, 19God will not reject a man of integrity,
Nor 20will He [l]support the evildoers. - “He will yet fill 21your mouth with laughter
And your lips with shouting. - “Those who hate you will be 22clothed with shame,
And the 23tent of the wicked will be no longer.”
