Chapter 31 of JobNew American Standard Bible (NASB)

  1. ¶ “I have made a covenant with my 1eyes;
    How then could I gaze at a virgin?
  2. “And what is 2the portion of God from above
    Or the heritage of the Almighty from on high?
  3. “Is it not 3calamity to the unjust
    And disaster to 4those who work iniquity?
  4. “Does He not 5see my ways
    And 6number all my steps?
  5. ¶ “If I have 7walked with falsehood,
    And my foot has hastened after deceit,
  6. Let Him 8weigh me with [a]accurate scales,
    And let God know 9my integrity.
  7. “If my step has 10turned from the way,
    Or my heart [b]followed my eyes,
    Or if any 11spot has stuck to my hands,
  8. Let me 12sow and another eat,
    And let my [c]13crops be uprooted.
  9. ¶ “If my heart has been 14enticed by a woman,
    Or I have lurked at my neighbor’s doorway,
  10. May my wife 15grind for another,
    And let 16others [d]kneel down over her.
  11. “For that would be a 17lustful crime;
    Moreover, it would be 18an iniquity punishable by judges.
  12. “For it would be 19fire that consumes to [e]20Abaddon,
    And would 21uproot all my [f]increase.
  13. ¶ “If I have 22despised the claim of my male or female slaves
    When they filed a complaint against me,
  14. What then could I do when God arises?
    And when He calls me to account, what will I answer Him?
  15. “Did not 23He who made me in the womb make him,
    And the same one fashion us in the womb?
  16. ¶ “If I have kept 24the poor from their desire,
    Or have caused the eyes of 25the widow to fail,
  17. Or have 26eaten my morsel alone,
    And 27the orphan has not [g]shared it
  18. (But from my youth he grew up with me as with a father,
    And from [h]infancy I guided her),
  19. If I have seen anyone perish 28for lack of clothing,
    Or that 29the needy had no covering,
  20. If his loins have not [i]thanked me,
    And if he has not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep,
  21. If I have lifted up my hand against 30the orphan,
    Because I saw [j]I had support 31in the gate,
  22. Let my shoulder fall from the [k]socket,
    And my 32arm be broken off [l]at the elbow.
  23. “For 33calamity from God is a terror to me,
    And because of 34His [m]majesty I can do nothing.
  24. ¶ “If I have put my confidence in 35gold,
    And called fine gold my trust,
  25. If I have 36gloated because my wealth was great,
    And because my hand had secured so much;
  26. If I have 37looked at the [n]sun when it shone
    Or the moon going in splendor,
  27. And my heart became secretly enticed,
    And my hand [o]threw a kiss from my mouth,
  28. That too would have been 38an iniquity calling for [p]judgment,
    For I would have 39denied God above.
  29. ¶ “Have I 40rejoiced at the extinction of my enemy,
    Or [q]exulted when evil befell him?
  30. [r]No, 41I have not [s]allowed my mouth to sin
    By asking for his life in 42a curse.
  31. “Have the men of my tent not said,
    ‘Who can [t]find one who has not been 43satisfied with his meat’?
  32. “The alien has not lodged outside,
    For I have opened my doors to the [u]traveler.
  33. “Have I 44covered my transgressions like [v]Adam,
    By hiding my iniquity in my bosom,
  34. Because I 45feared the great multitude,
    And the contempt of families terrified me,
    And kept silent and did not go out of doors?
  35. “Oh that I had one to hear me!
    Behold, here is my [w]signature;
    46Let the Almighty answer me!
    And the indictment which my 47adversary has written,
  36. Surely I would carry it on my shoulder,
    I would bind it to myself like a crown.
  37. “I would declare to Him 48the number of my steps;
    Like 49a prince I would approach Him.
  38. ¶ “If my 50land cries out against me,
    And its furrows weep together;
  39. If I have 51eaten its [x]fruit without money,
    Or have 52caused [y]its owners to lose their lives,
  40. Let 53briars [z]grow instead of wheat,
    And stinkweed instead of barley.”
    ¶ The words of Job are ended.

    When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

      The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

    The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

      NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

    Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

    As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
    New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

    In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
    "There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
    And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
    "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

      Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

      As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

      Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

    Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
