Chapter 44 of JeremiahNew American Standard Bible (NASB)

  1. ¶ The word that came to Jeremiah for all the Jews living in the land of Egypt, those who were living in 1Migdol, 2Tahpanhes, 3Memphis, and the land of 4Pathros, saying,
  2. “Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, ‘You yourselves have seen all the calamity that I have brought on Jerusalem and all the cities of Judah; and behold, this day they are in 5ruins and no one lives in them,
  3. 6because of their wickedness which they committed so as to 7provoke Me to anger by continuing to 8burn [a]sacrifices and to 9serve other gods whom they had not known, neither they, you, nor your fathers.
  4. Yet I 10sent you all My servants the prophets, [b]again and again, saying, “Oh, do not do this 11abominable thing which I hate.”
  5. But 12they did not listen or incline their ears to turn from their wickedness, so as not to burn [c]sacrifices to other gods.
  6. Therefore My 13wrath and My anger were poured out and burned in the 14cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, so they have become a ruin and a 15desolation as it is this day.
  7. Now then thus says the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, “Why are you 16doing great harm to yourselves, so as to 17cut off from you man and woman, child and infant, from among Judah, leaving yourselves without remnant,
  8. 18provoking Me to anger with the works of your hands, 19burning [d]sacrifices to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you are entering to reside, so that you might be cut off and become a 20curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?
  9. Have you forgotten the 21wickedness of your fathers, the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
  10. But they 22have not become [e]contrite even to this day, nor have they feared nor 23walked in My law or My statutes, which I have set before you and before your fathers.”’
  11. ¶ “Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, ‘Behold, I am going to 24set My face against you for [f]woe, even to cut off all Judah.
  12. And I will 25take away the remnant of Judah who have set their [g]mind on entering the land of Egypt to reside there, and they will all [h]26meet their end in the land of Egypt; they will fall by the sword and meet their end by famine. Both small and great will die by the sword and famine; and they will become a 27curse, an object of horror, an imprecation and a reproach.
  13. And I will 28punish those who live in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, with the sword, with famine and with pestilence.
  14. So there will be 29no refugees or survivors for the remnant of Judah who have entered the land of Egypt to reside there and then to return to the land of Judah, to which they are [i]30longing to return and live; for none will 31return except a few refugees.’”
  15. ¶ Then 32all the men who were aware that their wives were burning [j]sacrifices to other gods, along with all the women who were standing by, as a large assembly, [k]including all the people who were living in Pathros in the land of Egypt, responded to Jeremiah, saying,
  16. “As for the [l]33message that you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD, 34we are not going to listen to you!
  17. But rather we will certainly 35carry out every word that has proceeded from our mouths, [m]by burning [n]sacrifices to the 36queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, just as 37we ourselves, our forefathers, our kings and our princes did in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then we had 38plenty of [o]food and were well off and saw no [p]misfortune.
  18. But since we stopped burning [q]sacrifices to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have 39lacked everything and have [r]met our end by the sword and by famine.”
  19. “And,” said the women, “when we were 40burning [s]sacrifices to the queen of heaven and [t]were pouring out drink offerings to her, was it 41without our husbands that we made for her sacrificial cakes [u]in her image and poured out drink offerings to her?”
  20. ¶ Then Jeremiah said to all the people, to the men and women—even to all the people who were giving him such an answer—saying,
  21. “As for the [v]42smoking sacrifices that you burned in the cities of Judah and in the 43streets of Jerusalem, you and your forefathers, your kings and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD 44remember them and did not all this come into His [w]mind?
  22. So the LORD was 45no longer able to endure it, 46because of the evil of your deeds, because of the abominations which you have committed; thus your land has become a 47ruin, an object of horror and a curse, without an inhabitant, as it is this day.
  23. Because you have burned [x]sacrifices and have sinned against the LORD and 48not obeyed the voice of the LORD or 49walked in His law, His statutes or His testimonies, therefore this 50calamity has befallen you, as it has this day.”
  24. ¶ Then Jeremiah said to all the people, including all the women, “51Hear the word of the LORD, all Judah who are 52in the land of Egypt,
  25. thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, as follows: ‘As for you and your wives, you have spoken with your mouths and fulfilled it with your hands, saying, “We will 53certainly perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn [y]sacrifices to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her.” [z]54Go ahead and confirm your vows, and certainly perform your vows!’
  26. [aa]Nevertheless hear the word of the LORD, all Judah who are living in the land of Egypt, ‘Behold, I have 55sworn by My great name,’ says the LORD, ‘56never shall My name be invoked again by the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, “57As the Lord [ab]GOD lives.”
  27. Behold, I am watching over them 58for harm and not for good, and 59all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt will [ac]meet their end by the sword and by famine until they [ad]are completely gone.
  28. 60Those who escape the sword will return out of the land of Egypt to the land of Judah [ae]61few in number. Then all the remnant of Judah who have gone to the land of Egypt to reside there will know 62whose word will stand, Mine or theirs.
  29. This will be the 63sign to you,’ declares the LORD, ‘that I am going to punish you in this place, so that you may know that 64My words will surely stand against you for harm.’
  30. Thus says the LORD, ‘Behold, I am going to give over 65Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt to the hand of his enemies, to the hand of those who seek his life, just as I gave over 66Zedekiah king of Judah to the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who was his enemy and was seeking his life.’”

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
