Book of Amos, Chapter 1
Chapter 1 of Amos
“The 6LORD roars from Zion
And from Jerusalem He utters His voice;
And the shepherds’ 7pasture grounds mourn,
And the [b]8summit of Carmel dries up.”
“For 9three transgressions of 10Damascus and for four
I will not [c]revoke its punishment,
Because they threshed Gilead with implements of sharp iron.
And it will consume the citadels of 11Ben-hadad.
And cut off the inhabitant from the [d]valley of Aven,
And him who holds the scepter, from Beth-eden;
So the people of Aram will go exiled to 13Kir,”
Says the LORD.
“For three transgressions of 14Gaza and for four
I will not revoke its punishment,
Because they deported an entire population
To 15deliver it up to Edom.
And it will consume her citadels.
And him who holds the scepter, from 17Ashkelon;
I will even [e]unleash My [f]power upon Ekron,
And the remnant of the 18Philistines will perish,”
Says the Lord [g]GOD.
“For three transgressions of 19Tyre and for four
I will not revoke its punishment,
Because they delivered up an entire population to Edom
And did not remember the covenant of [h]20brotherhood.
And it will consume her citadels.”
“For three transgressions of 22Edom and for four
I will not revoke its punishment,
Because he 23pursued his brother with the sword,
While he [i]stifled his compassion;
His anger also 24tore continually,
And he maintained his fury forever.
And it will consume the citadels of Bozrah.”
“For three transgressions of the sons of 26Ammon and for four
I will not revoke its punishment,
Because they 27ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead
In order to 28enlarge their borders.
And it will consume her citadels
Amid [j]30war cries on the day of battle,
And a 31storm on the day of tempest.
He and his princes together,” says the LORD.FOOTNOTES
