Chapter 1 of 1 PeterNew American Standard Bible (NASB)

  1. 1Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
    ¶ To those who reside as 2aliens, 3scattered throughout 4Pontus, 5Galatia, 6Cappadocia, 7Asia, and 8Bithynia, 9who are chosen
  2. according to the 10foreknowledge of God the Father, 11by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, [a]to 12obey Jesus Christ and be 13sprinkled with His blood: 14May grace and peace [b]be yours in the fullest measure.
  3. 15Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who 16according to His great mercy 17has caused us to be born again to 18a living hope through the 19resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
  4. to obtain an 20inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and 21will not fade away, 22reserved in heaven for you,
  5. who are 23protected by the power of God 24through faith for 25a salvation ready 26to be revealed in the last time.
  6. 27In this you greatly rejoice, even though now 28for a little while, 29if necessary, you have been distressed by 30various [c]trials,
  7. so that the [d]31proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which [e]is perishable, 32even though tested by fire, 33may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at 34the revelation of Jesus Christ;
  8. and 35though you have not seen Him, you 36love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and [f]full of glory,
  9. obtaining as 37the outcome of your faith the salvation of [g]your souls.
  10. 38As to this salvation, the prophets who 39prophesied of the 40grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries,
  11. [h]seeking to know what person or time 41the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He 42predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories [i]to follow.
  12. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who 43preached the gospel to you by 44the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which 45angels long to [j]look.
  13. ¶ Therefore, [k]46prepare your minds for action, [l]47keep sober in spirit, fix your 48hope completely on the 49grace [m]to be brought to you at 50the revelation of Jesus Christ.
  14. As [n]51obedient children, do not [o]52be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your 53ignorance,
  15. but [p]54like the Holy One who called you, [q]55be holy yourselves also 56in all your behavior;
  16. because it is written, “57YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.”
  17. ¶ If you 58address as Father the One who 59impartially 60judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves 61in fear during the time of your 62stay on earth;
  18. knowing that you were not [r]63redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your 64futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
  19. but with precious 65blood, as of a 66lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
  20. For He was 67foreknown before 68the foundation of the world, but has 69appeared [s]in these last times 70for the sake of you
  21. who through Him are 71believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and 72gave Him glory, so that your faith and 73hope are in God.
  22. ¶ Since you have 74in obedience to the truth 75purified your souls for a [t]76sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from [u]the heart,
  23. for you have been 77born again 78not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring 79word of God.
  24. For,
    ¶ “80ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS,
    AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS.
    THE GRASS WITHERS,
    AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF,
  25. 81BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER.”
    ¶ And this is 82the word which was [v]preached to you.

    When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

      The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

    The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

      NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

    Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

    As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
    New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

    In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
    "There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
    And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
    "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

      Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

      As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

      Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

    Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
