Chapter 3 of 1 PeterNew American Standard Bible (NASB)

  1. 1In the same way, you wives, 2be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be 3won without a word by the behavior of their wives,
  2. as they observe your chaste and [a]respectful behavior.
  3. 4Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses;
  4. but let it be 5the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.
  5. For in this way in former times the holy women also, 6who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their own husbands;
  6. just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, 7calling him lord, and you have become her children if you do what is right [b]8without being frightened by any fear.
  7. 9You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with [c]10someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
  8. [d]To sum up, 11all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, 12brotherly, 13kindhearted, and 14humble in spirit;
  9. 15not returning evil for evil or 16insult for insult, but [e]giving a 17blessing instead; for 18you were called for the very purpose that you might 19inherit a blessing.
  10. For,
    ¶ “20THE ONE WHO DESIRES LIFE, TO LOVE AND SEE GOOD DAYS,
    MUST KEEP HIS TONGUE FROM EVIL AND HIS LIPS FROM SPEAKING DECEIT.
  11. 21HE MUST TURN AWAY FROM EVIL AND DO GOOD;
    HE MUST SEEK PEACE AND PURSUE IT.
  12. 22FOR THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE TOWARD THE RIGHTEOUS,
    AND HIS EARS ATTEND TO THEIR PRAYER,
    BUT THE FACE OF THE LORD IS AGAINST THOSE WHO DO EVIL.”
  13. 23Who is [f]there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good?
  14. But even if you should 24suffer for the sake of righteousness, 25you [g]are blessed. 26AND DO NOT FEAR THEIR [h]INTIMIDATION, AND DO NOT BE TROUBLED,
  15. but [i]sanctify 27Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready 28to make a [j]defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the 29hope that is in you, yet 30with gentleness and [k]31reverence;
  16. [l]and keep a 32good conscience so that in the thing in which 33you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.
  17. For 34it is better, 35if [m]God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong.
  18. For 36Christ also died for sins 37once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might 38bring us to God, having been put to death 39in the flesh, but made alive 40in the [n]spirit;
  19. in [o]which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison,
  20. who once were disobedient, when the 41patience of God 42kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of 43the ark, in which a few, that is, 44eight 45persons, were brought safely through the [p]water.
  21. 46Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—47not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God [q]for a 48good conscience—through 49the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
  22. 50who is at the right hand of God, 51having gone into heaven, 52after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.

    When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

      The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

    The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

      NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

    Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

    As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
    New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

    In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
    "There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
    And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
    "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

      Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

      As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

      Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

    Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
