Chapter 2 of 1 KingsNew American Standard Bible (NASB)

  1. ¶ As David’s [a]1time to die drew near, he charged Solomon his son, saying,
  2. 2I am going the way of all the earth. 3Be strong, therefore, and [b]show yourself a man.
  3. Keep the charge of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His ordinances, and His testimonies, 4according to what is written in the Law of Moses, that 5you may succeed in all that you do and wherever you turn,
  4. so that 6the LORD may carry out His promise which He spoke concerning me, saying, ‘7If your sons are careful of their way, 8to walk before Me in [c]truth with all their heart and with all their soul, [d]9you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’
  5. ¶ “Now you also know what Joab the 10son of Zeruiah did to me, what he did to the two commanders of the armies of Israel, to 11Abner the son of Ner, and to 12Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed; he also [e]shed the blood of war in peace. And he put the blood of war on his belt [f]about his waist, and on his sandals [g]on his feet.
  6. 13So act according to your wisdom, and do not let his gray hair go down to [h]Sheol in peace.
  7. But 14show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and 15let them be among those who eat at your table; 16for they [i]assisted me when I fled from Absalom your brother.
  8. Behold, 17there is with you Shimei the son of Gera the Benjamite, of Bahurim; now it was he who cursed me with a [j]violent curse on the day I went to Mahanaim. But when 18he came down to me at the Jordan, I swore to him by the LORD, saying, ‘I will not put you to death with the sword.’
  9. Now therefore, do not let him go unpunished, 19for you are a wise man; and you will know what you ought to do to him, and you will bring his gray hair down to [k]Sheol with blood.”
  10. ¶ Then 20David slept with his fathers and was buried in 21the city of David.
  11. 22The days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: 23seven years he reigned in Hebron and thirty-three years he reigned in Jerusalem.
  12. And 24Solomon sat on the throne of David his father, and his kingdom was firmly established.
  13. ¶ Now Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. And she said, “25Do you come peacefully?” And he said, “Peacefully.”
  14. Then he said, “I have something to say to you.” And she said, “Speak.”
  15. So he said, “You know that 26the kingdom was mine and 27that all Israel [l]expected me to be king; 28however, the kingdom has turned about and become my brother’s, 29for it was his from the LORD.
  16. Now I am making one request of you; do not [m]refuse me.” And she said to him, “Speak.”
  17. Then he said, “Please speak to Solomon the king, for he will not [n]refuse you, that he may give me 30Abishag the Shunammite as a wife.”
  18. Bathsheba said, “Very well; I will speak to the king for you.”
  19. ¶ So Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah. And the king arose to meet her, bowed before her, and sat on his throne; then he 31had a throne set for the king’s mother, and 32she sat on his right.
  20. Then she said, “I am making one small request of you; 33do not [o]refuse me.” And the king said to her, “Ask, my mother, for I will not [p]refuse you.”
  21. So she said, “34Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah your brother as a wife.”
  22. King Solomon answered and said to his mother, “And why are you asking Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? 35Ask for him also the kingdom—36for he is my older brother—even for him, for 37Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah!”
  23. Then King Solomon swore by the LORD, saying, “May God do so to me and more also, if Adonijah has 38not spoken this word against his own [q]life.
  24. Now therefore, as the LORD lives, who has established me and set me on the throne of David my father and 39who has made me a house as He promised, surely Adonijah shall be put to death today.”
  25. So King Solomon 40sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he fell upon him so that he died.
  26. ¶ Then to Abiathar the priest the king said, “41Go to Anathoth to your own field, 42for you [r]deserve to die; but I will not put you to death at this time, because 43you carried the ark of the Lord [s]GOD before my father David, and because 44you were afflicted in everything with which my father was afflicted.”
  27. So Solomon dismissed Abiathar from being priest to the LORD, in order to fulfill 45the word of the LORD, which He had spoken concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.
  28. ¶ Now the news came to Joab, 46for Joab had followed Adonijah, 47although he had not followed Absalom. And Joab fled to the tent of the LORD and 48took hold of the horns of the altar.
  29. It was told King Solomon that Joab had fled to the tent of the LORD, and behold, he is beside the altar. Then Solomon 49sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, “50Go, fall upon him.”
  30. So Benaiah came to the tent of the LORD and said to him, “Thus the king has said, ‘Come out.’” But he said, “No, for I will die here.” And Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, “Thus spoke Joab, and thus he answered me.”
  31. The king said to him, “51Do as he has spoken and fall upon him and bury him, 52that you may remove from me and from my father’s house the blood which Joab shed without cause.
  32. 53The LORD will return his blood on his own head, 54because he fell upon two men more righteous and better than he and killed them with the sword, while my father David did not know it: 55Abner the son of Ner, commander of the army of Israel, and 56Amasa the son of Jether, commander of the army of Judah.
  33. 57So shall their blood return on the head of Joab and on the head of his [t]descendants forever; but to David and his [u]descendants and his house and his throne, may there be peace from the LORD forever.”
  34. Then 58Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and fell upon him and put him to death, and he was buried at his own house 59in the wilderness.
  35. 60The king appointed Benaiah the son of Jehoiada over the army in his place, and the king appointed 61Zadok the priest 62in the place of Abiathar.
  36. ¶ Now the king sent and called for 63Shimei and said to him, “Build for yourself a house in Jerusalem and live there, and do not go out from there to any place.
  37. For on the day you go out and 64cross over the [v]brook Kidron, you will know for certain that you shall surely die; 65your blood shall be on your own head.”
  38. Shimei then said to the king, “The word is good. As my lord the king has said, so your servant will do.” So Shimei lived in Jerusalem many days.
  39. ¶ But it came about at the end of three years, that two of the servants of Shimei ran away 66to Achish son of Maacah, king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, “Behold, your servants are in Gath.”
  40. Then Shimei arose and saddled his donkey, and went to Gath to Achish to look for his servants. And Shimei went and brought his servants from Gath.
  41. It was told Solomon that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and had returned.
  42. So the king sent and called for Shimei and said to him, “Did I not make you swear by the LORD and solemnly warn you, saying, ‘You will know for certain that on the day you depart and go anywhere, you shall surely die’? And you said to me, ‘The word which I have heard is good.’
  43. Why then have you not kept the oath of the LORD, and the command which I [w]have laid on you?”
  44. The king also said to Shimei, “67You know all the evil which [x]you acknowledge in your heart, which you did to my father David; therefore 68the LORD shall return your evil on your own head.
  45. But King Solomon shall be blessed, and 69the throne of David shall be established before the LORD forever.”
  46. 70So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he went out and fell upon him so that he died.
71Thus the kingdom was established in the hands of Solomon.

The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things, and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
